Kanyari listed the contributions made during Betty Bayo’s funeral, prompting some Kenyans to question his motive.
“Retired president Uhuru Kenyatta gave KSh 1 million, while the former deputy president gave KSh 300,000. President William Ruto and his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, each gave KSh 5 million,” said Kanyari.

“Then you have the ordinary Kenyans who gave different amounts, including KSh 100 and KSh 300.”
The preacher urged his congregants to keep contributing via a WhatsApp group they had formed, noting that the contributions had reached almost KSh 500,000.
“If you want to be added to the group, cry with those who are mourning.”
Kanyari discouraged the congregation from failing to contribute towards the cause.
“Remember, I might be in a dark place today, and tomorrow it might be you.”
Kanyari said that he questioned people he once gave money to for not giving their contributions, noting that he always gives back.
“There was an MP aspirant who came and gave us KSh 20,000 and did not say his mother had cancer. I saw today that he put me in a WhatsApp group because his mum died. I told my secretary that I would go to Narok – I don’t know him or have ever seen him.
