Weatherman Announces Regions to Experience Rainfall for Days, Including Central and Western

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an update on the weather conditions to be expected this week.

According to their statement, five regions in the country will experience rainfall from Tuesday, November 25, to December 1.

The Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and Western Kenya are the regions to be affected.

The weatherman stated that most parts of the country would remain sunny and dry during the week.

“Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in a few areas,” the Kenya Met statement read in part.

During the nighttime, temperatures will drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Which counties will experience heavy rainfall?

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley

The counties set to be affected include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

A maximum temperature of 31°C will be experienced within the region, while minimum temperatures will range from 7°C to 9°C

Highlands East of the Rift Valley

The counties set to be affected include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.

The maximum temperatures to be experienced range from 27°C to 29°C, while the minimum temperatures range from 5°C to 9°C.

North Eastern

Counties set to be affected include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.

The maximum temperatures to be experienced range from 36°C to 37°C, while the minimum temperatures range from 17°C to 19°C.

South Eastern lowlands

Counties to be affected include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River.

The maximum temperatures to be experienced range from 33°C to 34°C, while the minimum temperatures range from 24°C to 25°C.

What are safety measures during heavy rainfall?

In a previous incident, the Kenya Met issued an advisory that was set to assist Kenyans in the regions set to experience heavy downpour.

The first measure was that residents should ensure that they do not drive in moving water, stating that it would put their lives in danger.

Secondly, residents were advised against standing under trees, near grilled windows or in moving water to minimise the risk of being struck by lightning.

The advisory was issued in order to reduce the number of victims affected by the anticipated heavy rainfall.
