Kakamega County Commissioner Kyatha Onesmus has dismissed claims circulating online that Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has been arrested.

He said there is no evidence backing the rumours and urged residents to stay calm as the situation remains stable.
Kyatha issued the clarification as speculation spread widely on social media, creating uncertainty around the governor’s whereabouts.
Did police arrest George Natembeya?
He noted that officials have not received any preliminary report indicating that Natembeya is in custody.
He also addressed other concerns linked to the by elections, including reports of violence, vandalism and attempts to disrupt the process.
Kyatha urged anyone affected to file reports at the nearest police station, adding that investigations are ongoing and those involved will be held responsible.
On claims that attackers vandalised DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako’s Hotel in Kaburengu, Kyatha said he had not received the report and noted that DCI officers will handle the matter.
Police deny reports of violence in Malava
He assured residents that security operations in Malava remained steady and described the exercise as generally peaceful with no major disturbances.
He further cautioned the public against spreading misleading information online, warning that such actions can expose individuals to cyber law offences.
“So far we haven’t seen any violations in Malava, what happened in Kaburengu has not been reported,” he said.
Kyatha encouraged residents to stay alert and share any credible concerns with authorities, stressing that officers are in control of the situation.
The Malava by election drew strong interest, with several candidates seeking to fill the seat left vacant after the passing of MP Malulu Injendi.
