In a short message posted on his Facebook page, the deputy president hinted at the tense atmosphere surrounding the tallying process.
“On the edge,” he wrote, a phrase that quickly drew attention as the counting of votes continued.
The by-election, which attracted intense interest from both local leaders and residents, moved into a critical stage as polling stations closed and tallies started coming in.
The focus quickly shifted to Siakago Town Hall, the main tallying centre, as crowds gathered outside to follow the process.
A moment of unrest was reported shortly before the latest update. A group of youth armed with rungus stormed the area around the hall and scattered people who had gathered to watch the counting.
Security officers moved in to calm the situation, firing teargas canisters.
