Four Gor Mahia players were involved in a road accident on Friday morning along Outering Road.

The players were headed for a training session when the accident happened.

Kevin Teya initially reported that the players sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital to receive treatment.

“Gor Mahia have cancelled today’s training session after four players travelling in a private car were involved in a road accident along Outering. The players sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital.”

Which players were in the accident?

In a statement, Gor Mahia confirmed that the players involved were vice-captain Austine Odhiambo, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango and Felix Oluoch.

The club has since called the training session, even as the players were treated and discharged at a local hospital.

“Four of our players, Austine, Fidel, Joshua and Felix were involved in an accident this morning en route to training; all the four players were treated for minor injuries at a hospital and discharged. They are all fine,” read a statement from the club.

Fans sent their well-wishes to the players.

Richard Oluoch said,

“Some relief, at least, though the incident is unfortunate.Quick recuperation, guys. Take utmost care next time.”

Roger Forks said,

“Quick recovery to our boys. Kwani, what happened? Where did this occur, and also why were they not using the team bus?”

While Agnes Odero said,

“I witnessed this, and what a shock to learn that our players were involved. The world is truly mysterious. Quick recovery to the boys. God said that today would not be their day.”

Why Mashemeji derby was postponed

The accident comes at a time when Gor Mahia have no planned game this weekend following the postponement of the Mashemeji derby.

The record Kenyan champions were supposed to face their sworn rivals, AFC Leopards, on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

However, the game was cancelled due to Nyayo Stadium’s unavailability. The stadium is slated to host a government function.

The other ground that can host the Mashemeji Derby is Kasarani, but it is also unavailable as it will be hosting Nairobi United’s CAF Confederation game against AS Maniema.

The game has since been rescheduled for the following week.

The Green Army lost to APS Bomet on Tuesday, 4-1, in what was a shocking result. They are, however, still on top of the Premier League table with 19 points.

Gor Mahia fans visit Raila Odinga’s grave

In a different report, Gor Mahia fans visited the grave of Raila Odinga in Siaya.

Raila, who served as Gor Mahia’s patron, died on October 15 while receiving treatment in India.

The fans first gathered in Kisumu before going to Raila’s grave at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi.
