The incident was reported to the police, and the suspect was arrested and presented in court. According to the prosecutor, Venegas attempted to carry Ah’Lyric away before she acted quickly to save herself.

The suspect allegedly slapped the young girl before fleeing the scene. However, the 34-year-old man was found guilty of kidnapping and child ab*se by the jury.

A surveillance video captured the suspect roaming around the apartment complex.

Prosecutors argued that Venegas waved at the 9-year-old while she was watching fireworks and tried to lure her towards him. After a failed first attempt, he returned two days later with a more aggressive approach.

“Leonardo Venegas kidnapped Ah’Lyric, but unfortunately for him, he chose the wrong little girl,” said prosecutor Jared Lorenz during his closing arguments.

Did Leonardo Venegas plead guilty?

The suspect, who became emotional while testifying, denied all allegations, claiming that the little girl was lying.

David Donet, his lawyer, acknowledged that Venegas appeared in the surveillance video but explained that he was in the area viewing properties as a realtor.

Nonetheless, if convicted, Venegas faces up to life in prison.
