In the Thursday, November 27 polls, Moses Omondi Okoth, who carried the ODM ticket, secured victory with 9,437 votes.
The results were read at Ambira High School, which served as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) tallying centre.

Omondi opened a huge gap between himself and the rest of the field in a contest that had drawn 10 candidates.
“I want to thank you very much for your patience. From this result, therefore, one Mr Omondi Moses Okoth has garnered more votes than any other candidate,” IEBC declared.
How did Omondi react to his win?
After the declaration, Omondi addressed residents with a message focused on gratitude and unity.
He thanked the voters who turned up, noting that participation was lower than expected but still meaningful for the community’s democratic process.
The MP-elect also acknowledged the trust placed in him as the second MP of Ugunja constituency and promised to serve with commitment for the remaining term.
Omondi went further to appreciate his competitors, urging them to work with him for the good of the constituency.
“I thank Ugunja residents for taking their time and coming out, though they didn’t turn up as we expected; the turnout was low. We hoped that they would have turned up more than this, but those who found time came out and exercised their democratic right by electing the second Ugunja MP. I also take this chance to express special gratitude to my competitors and I ask them to join me and let’s work together so that Ugunja can continue to grow. That is what is important as at now. Thank you very much,” Omondi stated.
How other candidates performed in Ugunja polls
The result confirmed what many inside ODM had hoped for: that the party’s ground network in Ugunja still held firm despite a crowded race and a low voter turnout.
Only 15,017 of the 60,114 registered voters cast their ballots, translating to a turnout of 24.98% in the mini polls.
Even so, the numbers were enough to give Omondi a comfortable lead and a fresh mandate to serve until the next General Election in 2027.

Omondi’s closest challenger, Fredrick Ochiel of the United Democratic Movement, finished far behind with 1,200 votes. Benson Obol Otieno of the United Green Movement followed with 1,171 votes.
The rest of the field posted modest numbers with Maurice Juma Okumu claiming 381 votes, Vincent Olengo had 333, Chrispin Omondi got 188, Lilian Akech earned 182, Erick Ofiro collected 91, and Oliver Ochieng finished with 56.
IEBC also noted that the tallies had been validated by representatives of several political parties, including Jubilee, ODM, KANU, the Liberal Party of Kenya, Wiper, and the Alliance Party of Kenya.
