East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has celebrated Boyd Were after the young man clinched the Kasipul parliamentary seat.

Boyd emerged victorious in the Thursday, November 27, by-election after rigorous campaigns.

How many votes did Boyd Were get?

According to official results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s Kasipul returning officer, Rebecca Abwakhu, Were garnered 16,819 votes.

Coming in second with 8,476 votes was Philip Aroko, the 27-year-old’s main opponent, who ran independently.

“Aroko Philip Nashon 8,476, Ong’ondo Boyd Were, 16,819. The MP-elect is Honourable Ong’ondo Boyd Were,” Abwakhu declared.

The returning officer’s declaration was met by wild cheers at Agoro Sare High School, which served as the constituency’s tallying centre.

Boyd joined in the celebration that included Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, who had been assaulted during voting.

The big gap further confirmed ODM’s firm grip on the constituency and underscored the party’s success in rallying its base despite the tense and competitive campaigns.

Boyd, speaking shortly after receiving his certificate, expressed gratitude to the people who backed him.

He made it clear that the victory was both a personal milestone and a responsibility he was ready to shoulder.

What did Boyd Were say after winning?

Boyd, who succeeds his late father, stated that it was now time to go back to the drawing board and serve Kasipul.

“First of all, I want to thank the residents of Kasipul for believing in me. I am happy with the responsibility to lead the people of Kasipul. I also want to thank our party, ODM, together with our party chairlady, Gladys Wanga, for believing in youthful leadership. The people of Kasipul have done their part. Now all that’s remaining is for me to serve them diligently. Thank you very much,” Boyd said in his maiden speech.

Winnie Odinga’s congratulatory message to Boyd Were

Winnie joined other ODM party members in celebrating Boyd’s victory.

Via Instagram, she stated that Boyd’s victory was a huge win for the youth.

Winnie added that the ODM party is strong and intact.

“This is a huge win for the youth. Hongera Boyd, for winning the Kasipul seat. ODM Iko Imara,” she stated.

The Kasipul MP-elect’s mother expressed her overwhelming joy following her son’s victory.

Boyd’s two mothers attended some of his rallies, wearing matching orange outfits to show their unity and support for their son. Alongside two other women, they laughed and fist-bumped, joyfully proclaiming.
