Nairobi – Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to take over Nairobi leadership in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

During a Thanksgiving service at P.C.E.A. Kariobangi North Berea Parish Church on Sunday, November 30, Gachagua stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s dominance of Nairobi City politics is over.
Which seats will DCP get in Nairobi?
The former DP shared details of his agreement with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, which will see the opposition sweep the majority of the seats in Nairobi.

Under the agreement, Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) will produce the governor, senator and woman representative.
Gachagua’s party will also produce 16 out of 17 MPs and 75 out of 85 ward representatives in the capital.
“I want to thank the people of Kariobangi for electing your MCA on DCP. This is the party of Nairobi, and we have a plan going forward. We have an agreement with the Wiper leader, who has been helping ODM in Nairobi. The deal is to have the governor, woman rep and senator on DCP, while we have agreed, working with Wiper, to have at least 16 out of 17 MPs in our coalition,” Gachagua said.
Did Gachagua help Ruto to win in Nairobi?
Gachagua claimed that the votes that President William Ruto got in 2022 in Nairobi were courtesy of him and that they have all shifted to DCP.
“All the votes Ruto got in Nairobi were courtesy of Gachagua, and they have been moved to DCP,” he said.

The former deputy president said his party’s victory in the Kariobangi Ward by-election was just the start.
With the agreement, it could likely mean Kalonzo will be the opposition’s presidential flagbearer in the upcoming 2027 election.

How Gachagua reacted to recent by-elections
At the same time, the former deputy president downplayed the political impact of the recently concluded by-elections.
Speaking in Kariobangi North, Gachagua said he was not bothered by the outcome of the Mbeere North parliamentary seat.
While highlighting his party’s performance in other parts of the country, the former deputy president said his critics were focusing on areas where the party did not compete.
The DCP leader said his political party did not field a candidate in the Mbeere North by-election.
Gachagua said he only went to Mbeere North to help the DP candidate, who was the United Opposition candidate in the race.
He said he was happy with the outcome of the recently concluded by-elections, given that DCP won three out of five contested seats elsewhere.
