During an engagement with Digital Opinion Shapers on Monday, December 1, Wanyonyi castigated his brother, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party, for the way they ran their campaigns.
According to the Westlands MP, certain leaders in Bungoma county have always believed in using force to get into power.
However, he said recent Kabuchai by-elections showed selling fear and intimidation can no longer sway the electorate.
Wanyonyi said the Chwele-Kabuchai residents overwhelmingly voted for Eric Wekesa, an independent candidate, despite the use of force by the Ford Kenya party leaders
“There are people who have believed that they can get power by force. In Kabuchai here recently, when they tried that, it didn’t work. They were telling people ‘they will walk while running’, with other ‘abusive words’, but it didn’t work; it failed. The people they were selling that fear to refused and voted the way they did. So nobody can force you to do what you dont want,” Wanyonyi said.
The ODM lawmaker reminded Bungoma people that his brand of politics is different and that it does not involve bullying, threatening or using force.
Wanyonyi, who is eyeing replacing Kenneth Lusaka in 2027, said Bungoma county will be liberated through honest persuasion and clarity of intentions.

“We are not here to bully, threaten, or force anyone into supporting our vision, Bungoma will be liberated through honest persuasion, humility, and the clarity of our intentions. When leadership is genuine, people see it for themselves. Our work, our character, and our agenda for a fair, dignified, and progressive Bungoma will speak louder than intimidation ever could. Together, we will win by conviction, not coercion,” he said.
