The Kasipul parliamentary seat was left vacant following the assassination of his father, Charles Ong’ondo Were, on April 30.
He was shot and killed by gunmen on a motorcycle who ambushed his vehicle in Nairobi.
There was excitement as Boyd took the oath of office, with his swearing-in a poignant moment, as he walked the same halls his late father had walked.

What happened at Boyd Were’s swearing-in?
Boyd Were was warmly greeted at parliament by his family and friends, visibly excited as he made his way to the chamber.
Dressed in a dark grey pinstripe suit, red tie, matching pocket square, and a stylish wristwatch, Boyd exuded confidence.
His neatly trimmed haircut added to his polished appearance, marking a promising debut on the national stage.
Following in his father’s political footsteps, Boyd smiled as he was escorted into the House by Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma.
Once Boyd took his oath, ODM MPs gathered around him, each eager to shake his hand before allowing him to take his seat, which perhaps marked a symbolic initiation into Kenya’s dynamic political world.
