National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula has addressed speculation about the whereabouts of Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi.

He acknowledged the concern of his constituents but strongly condemned the hearsay claiming the lawmaker was dead.

Speaking in parliament on Thursday, December 4, Wetang’ula clarified that Wanyonyi had been admitted for a month at Nairobi Hospital and was later airlifted to India on doctors’ recommendation.
“I want to inform the House that Ferdinand Wanyonyi, the Member of Parliament for Kwanza, is unwell. He was in Nairobi Hospital for about a month, and doctors recommended that we take him to India. He is there. I am saying this because I want to send a message to evil rumour mongers that he passed away and we are holding on to the information maliciously,” said the speaker.
The speaker revealed that he had spoken with the ailing MP, whose condition he did not disclose, and assured the Members of Parliament that he was responding well to treatment.
He also urged MPs to exercise caution and condemn individuals who spread misinformation about people’s plight without meaningful intention.
“Yesterday I had a conference call with him, and it is his wife who took him. This morning, the clerk did the same. Wanyonyi has not passed on. He is responding well to treatment and is there with his wife and his daughter. I have personally communicated with them.
This can happen to any MP; we should condemn people who take advantage of people’s plight and spread wicked rumours that have no value to anybody, not even themselves,” Wetang’ula warned.
