It now emerges that nominated MP Denar Joseph Hamisi succumbed to severe injuries he sustained after an accident near his home Saturday morning, December 6.

The MP’s demise was announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula through an official communique.
In his statement, the speaker explained that the MP died moments past 7 am, but did not disclose the cause of death.
Hamisi lost his life after his car crashed along Nandi Road near his residence in Karen.
How Denar Hamisi met his tragic death
Eyewitness Mathew Owire reported that the lawmaker, who was alone in the car, died instantly.
The white SUV is said to have lost control, veered off the road into a ditch, and rammed into a tree.
Owire explained that the MP could not survive due to the severity of the crash, sustaining fatal head injuries and excessive bleeding.
He and other bystanders removed the body from the wreckage before police arrived to secure the scene and leave with the body.
The vehicle, which suffered extensive front-end damage, was later towed to a police station.
“I went there and found him unconscious with blood spilling. We could not talk to him. I asked my fellows to come and help remove him from the car. His head was stuck on the door; it could not open. We thought of notifying the police to come and help. The officers arrived after we had already removed the body from the car, and they took over the matter from there,” said Owire.
Hamisi was sponsored to the 13th parliament by the now-defunct Amani National Congress (ANC) party, which at the time was led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
How Speaker Wetang’ula eulogised deceased MP
Wetang’ula eulogised Hamisi as a committed legislator who consistently prioritised the interests of both the House and ordinary citizens.
He highlighted Hamisi’s diligent service on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
The speaker extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues, noting that Hamisi would be remembered for his humility and unwavering dedication to public service.
He described the MP’s passing as a significant loss to Parliament and the nation.
Wetang’ula further announced that the National Assembly would collaborate with the family in organising the lawmaker’s send-off, with a parliamentary team led by Kilifi North MP and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya.

Mudavadi joined in mourning, portraying Hamisi as a principled and courageous leader.
He described Hamisi as diligent, loyal, and resolute, noting that his forthright character and ability to inspire others earned him respect across the political divide.
Mudavadi extended condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and parliamentary colleagues, acknowledging the difficult moment for all.
Hamisi’s death came only weeks after that of Isiolo South MP Mohamed Bidu, who passed away at Nairobi Hospital on November 12 while receiving treatment for a long-term illness.
Bidu, a prominent voice in Kenyan politics, had earlier served as the inaugural speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly.
The two lawmakers add to a list of leaders lost during the 13th Parliament, among them Ong’ondo Were, a former Kasipul MP shot dead in Nairobi in April; Malava MP Malulu Injendi, who succumbed to illness in a Nairobi hospital; and Banissa’s Kulow Maalim Hassan, who died in a tragic road accident in 2023.
