They urged the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader to “stop presenting himself” as the region’s kingpin, arguing that the outcome of the Mbeere North by-election was a clear signal of Mt. Kenya’s preferred political leader.
According to the youth leaders, the recent Mbeere North by-election served as a definitive referendum on Mt Kenya kingship.
“This was not just a by-election; it was a referendum on who Mt. Kenya trusts to steer its political future. The people spoke loudly, and they chose Prof. Kithure Kindiki,” Peterson Merichi, the chairman of the youth league, said.
The group framed Leonard Wa Muthende’s victory, Kindiki’s publicly supported candidate, over Gachagua’s pick, Newton Karish, as a “direct endorsement” and a “vote-by-vote” statement on the region’s leadership preference.
They praised Kindiki’s decisive and unifying leadership during the recent hotly contested by-election.
Is Kindiki the Mt Kenya political kingpin?
According to the youth leaders, the deputy president had used the mini-poll to prove himself as the political leader of the Mt Kenya region.

Why Kithure Kindiki praised Mt Kenya MPs
In related development, Kindiki celebrated the win by the United Democratic Alliance in the recent Mbeere North parliamentary seat by-election.
On Wednesday, December 3, Kindiki hosted 60 Kenya Kwanza MPs from Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Nakuru, Nairobi and Lamu Counties at his Karen residence.
Kindiki used the meeting to thank the lawmakers for their dedication, commitment, and teamwork that resulted in the election of Leo Wa Muthende of UDA as the Mbeere North Constituency member of parliament.
Kindiki, who led the campaigns that culminated in Wa Muthende’s victory, said they ensured the quest remained issue-based despite attempts by opponents to force them into insults and other unproductive engagements.
