Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sparked reactions online after opening up about his family dynamics during a recent church event.

The politician was speaking at the close of the Reformed Church of East Africa Women League annual convention in Kitengela, where he touched on the role of parents in shaping their children’s values.
Who is Kipchumba Murkomen’s wife?
While Murkomen is well known for his rise from a celebrated lawyer to a Cabinet Secretary, little is publicly known about his family life.

He has been married to his wife, Gladys Wanjiru, for more than two decades. In the past, Murkomen has praised her support, even recalling moments early in his career when she would send him fare.
Though she rarely appears in public, the CS often speaks fondly of her unwavering support for him and their two sons.
What does Murkomen’s wife do?
While addressing attendees, Murkomen spoke about the importance of building strong foundations for children, beginning at the family level.
He said that many social challenges could be prevented through present and honest parenting.
To drive his point home, he disclosed that his wife stepped away from her corporate career to focus on raising their children.
“There is nothing that can replace personal attention for your children. I am very lucky that my wife decided to stop working just to stay at home with the kids. I have to work double so that I can support the wife and the kids but she is helping me to make sure that there is someone looking after the kids,” he said.
He encouraged parents to spend more time with their children and to prioritise their parental responsibilities as much as possible.
“Some of the prevailing social ills and crimes in our society today are attributable to a lack of parental attention and guidance during childhood. The role of parenting is increasingly being left to teachers, pastors, nannies and the internet,” he added.

How did Murkomen and his wIfe celebrate his appointment as CS?
After taking the oath of office as CS back in 2024, Murkomen held a private celebration with his wife, relatives and a few close friends.
Videos from the celebration showed him dressed in a grey suit paired with a white shirt and maroon tie, dancing cheerfully beside his wife, who wore a flowing green dress.
The pair were adorned with traditional Maasai beadwork on their heads, while Murkomen also had a sinedet, a climbing plant, placed around his neck.
The sinedet is used to honour leaders, victors or warriors during celebrations in line with Kalenjin traditions.
