Almost exactly a month after her death, the late singer has remained in the spotlight, with previously unknown details about her private life sparking debate among gossip-loving netizens.
Why is Betty Bayo still trending?
The first controversy after her sudden demise centred on who would take custody of her children. Many argued between their biological father, Pastor Kanyari, whom Betty had separated from, her mother and their stepfather, Tash, also known as Hiram Gitau.
While that debate is still unresolved, more drama unfolded when Betty’s brother, Edward Mbugua, went live on TikTok, making startling claims about her love life.
He also claimed that those close to her had not informed them about her illness until it was too late, and further that Betty and Tash were never officially married.
Days later, Betty’s mother also took to TikTok live, weeping as she shared her own allegations against Tash.
She advised Pastor Kanyari to take in the children, making it clear that her objective was to secure Betty’s assets for them to inherit.

Amid the barrage of claims, one of Betty’s close friends and fellow gospel minister, Loise Kim, shared her thoughts on the unfolding drama.
The Mwana hitmaker, who was even in the burial committee, took to her Facebook page, writing:
“I wish that you were here Mama. The battles could have been easy.”
Her message ignited mixed reactions online, with netizens asking her to share more details about her version of events.
