A young woman from Eldoret in Uasin Gishu county has expressed her joy and gratitude after Kenyans on social media offered to support and uplift her mother.

Phylis Kemboi graduated from Eldoret National Polytechnic on December 1 and went for a photo shoot with her beloved mother.
She shared the pictures on TikTok to celebrate the woman who had done everything to ensure she completed her studies, never missing exams due to a lack of school fees.
Kemboi told TUKO.co.ke that she wasn’t expecting much reaction from the photos, as she was simply honouring her mother’s immense efforts in her life.

“I was just celebrating myself and my mum. I had no major expectations and didn’t know we would go viral like that,” she said.

Despite sharing several images in her graduation gown, one photo of her and her mother captured the hearts of many.
In the image, she is sitting on a stool, holding flowers and looking neat in her gown, while her mother stands beside her wearing a white sweater, a kitenge dress, and old sneakers.
Kemboi noted that many people noticed her mum’s shoes, and the comment section was soon flooded with well-wishers offering to buy her new ones.
“Some offered to buy her Christmas gifts, and others sent money for her,” she said.
The young graduate shared that she studied childcare and protection and dreams of working abroad one day.

Who paid Phylis Kemboi’s school fees?
Kemboi explained that her father passed away several years ago, leaving her mother a widow who single-handedly cared for her and her siblings.
“My mum doesn’t have a specific job; she just hustles to find money to feed us and made good use of bursaries to pay for my education. I am truly indebted to her. I would like to get a chance to work abroad so I can give back,” she said.
Kemboi appealed to Kenyans of goodwill who could help her achieve her dreams, whether through scholarships or job offers.
All in all, she remains thankful for the kind words and support that a few of her followers have sent her way, noting that she does not take their generosity for granted.
