The 64-year-old died in a heartbreaking road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, leaving his family and the nation in deep mourning.
Jirongo was reportedly on his way home to Nairobi from Nakuru when his Mercedes-Benz collided head-on with an oncoming passenger bus in the Karai area of Naivasha around 3 am.
It’s believed that Jirongo’s car was in the wrong lane when it collided with the bus, which was operated by Climax Company, leading to the sudden death of the former MP.

An eyewitness shared a video of the accident scene shortly after it occurred, narrating what he had seen.
What did eyewitness say about Jirongo’s accident?
The man, in a TikTok video under the username Trucker’s Obsession, explained that the passenger bus seemed to have passed over the bonnet of the Mercedes-Benz, suggesting that the car was likely beyond repair.
He expressed concern over the recklessness of some drivers from the bus company, claiming that they had been involved in several previous accidents.

The eyewitness also expressed doubt that the victim in the private car could have survived the crash.
“I don’t think he’s alive. I see they’re trying to get him out of the car. You can go and see for yourself. As for me, I don’t like getting too close to such scenes. Now, look at how they’re trying to pull him out with a rope. These buses are useless,” he said to his friends in the car.
At the scene, both locals and authorities could be seen working to restore normalcy on that stretch of the road.
Jirongo’s car was positioned in the middle of the road, facing sideways after the collision, while the Climax bus was just in front of it. Other vehicles had also been halted to allow the police to process the scene and clear the wreckage.
Officers from Naivasha Police Station, who assessed the scene, confirmed that the impact of the collision was so severe that the former MP died at the scene.
Jirongo’s body was moved to Naivasha Sub-county Mortuary before being transferred to Lee Funeral Home at the request of his family.
Netizens react to clip of Jirongo crash scene
Gandie:
“But this looks like the climbing lane, so Jirongo had the right of way.”
Samki:
“It seems the climbing lane had traffic, so they decided to switch into oncoming traffic. Just look at how the vehicles are positioned.”
Mr. Anjumbaise:
“Walai, drivers of buses and trailers often underestimate the smaller cars. But if it had been his fellow bus, I’m sure they would’ve tried their best.”
Evance:
“All long-distance buses should be fitted with functioning dashboard cameras. NTSA should make this a requirement.”
Michael Olunga:
“Sasa, this is the real video of the road accident. Forget what people are saying out there.”
What did Jirongo’s family say?
In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that the family of the late politician questioned the police account of his fatal road crash.
Jirongo’s family claimed he was on his way home to Gigiri after leaving Karen late on Friday night, December 12, as opposed to the police account.
Family spokesperson Fred Gumo wondered how the former MP ended up on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, given that he had left Karen for his home.
