The results of over one million Grade 9 candidates were released last week, marking the first KJSEA exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Judy Kimani could not conceal her joy after her son, who studied at a public school in Murang’a, performed well in the national exams.
Judy noted that her son Leshan is her firstborn child, and as a single mum, his performance validated all the efforts and sacrifices she made to educate him.
“When I saw his results, I really thanked God. I felt proud and awesome of how he performed in his exam. As a single mum, this meant so much as he is also my firstborn,” she said.
In a screenshot she shared on her personal Facebook page, Leshan had EE2s in English, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, Christian Religious Education and Creative Arts and Sports.
He also had an ME1 in Kiswahili and an ME2 in Maths and Pre-Technical Studies.
Besides his prowess in academics, young Leshan is also a budding musician with a YouTube channel.
“As his mother, I declare blessings in his life,” the proud mum added.

When will Grade 9 students join senior high school?
While releasing the results on Thursday, December 11, the Ministry of Education assured that all students who sat for the KJSEA will transition to senior secondary school on January 12, 2026.
However, placement will depend on each learner’s strengths. The Ministry of Education and KNEC will review overall performance and place learners in schools that match their skills and abilities.
Placement will depend on how well learners perform in their chosen subjects at Junior Secondary School.
There are three pathways after Junior Secondary: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences and Arts and Sports Science.
Each Senior School is expected to offer at least two of the three pathways.
