Awasi, Kisumu county: Friends of Mayienga FM radio presenter Festus Amimo, led by Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng’, have built a traditional house for his firstborn son ahead of his burial.

Festus passed collapsed and died in a Nairobi hotel room, and his death caught many by surprise, as he was still young and full of life.
According to Luo traditions, Amimo’s teenage eldest son requires a simba (house) to be built for him in the family village homestead, and friends gathered, planning to construct a semi-permanent aluminum structure to honour the custom.

Ugenya MP David Ochieng’, however, had other plans and embarked on building a house for the young man.
“Not for my friend. Not for Festus,” he declared.
In an extraordinary act of brotherhood, Ochieng’ chose to build a permanent house instead, and he completed it in just six days. Blogger Jarunda Jaluth Mambobiad christened it the fastest permanent simba ever constructed in Luo Nyanza.

Apart from building the simba, Ochieng’ also financed Festus’s final resting place, ensuring his friend would be laid to rest with dignity.
“This is what true friendship looks like… not in words, but in action,” said Jarunda.
Festus Amimo will be buried in his village home this week, his son now sheltered under a roof built by love, loyalty, and unwavering brotherhood.
“Rest in power, Festus. Your legacy stands strong. To Ochieng’: Thank you for showing us what real friendship means,” he added.
