What did CCTV footage of Cyrus Jirongo’s crash show?

CCTV footage recovered from the petrol station Jirongo drove by pieced together his last moments before the fatal collision.

In the footage, Jirongo’s white Mercedes was seen driving into the petrol station at around 2.18am, and he did not stop to fuel.

He drove out of the station, and the CCTV captured him by the side of the road, albeit not indicating which side of the highway he was intending to join.

A Probox was also spotted in the CCTV getting into the fuel station, and it stopped to fuel as Jirongo drove away.

A few metres from him, the Climax Coach bus was spotted speeding heading the Nakuru direction and as Jirongo joined the highway, the accident occurred, killing him on the spot.

The impact pushed his car 25 metres from the scene of the accident, and the bus was spotted about 50 metres away.

When he watched the CCTV, a Kenyan man identified as Ndungu Harun deduced that the accident was just that, an accident, with no foul play spotted.

Harun opined that from the footage, Jirongo seemed to have erred, thus causing the crash.

“The issue of Cyrus Jirongo’s death should now be put to rest. According to the CCTV clip below, it was purely an accident and an error by the Late Jirongo,” he wrote on his Facebook.

His post sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans, with a majority seemingly insisting that the CCTV did not tell the whole story of the accident.

Here are some of the comments:

Joe Okundi wrote:

“How do you know he was the one driving?

@Monica:

“As Kenyans, we like witnessing incidents, but nobody from this bus came out of the bus to go and see what happened. Don’t trust the CCTV.”

Brian Wanjala said:

“Nowadays, Kenyans are idle and insecure. Nothing happens naturally, according to them. They are taking much time creating captivating narratives which seem to release stress instead of facts.”
