Rongai Member of Parliament Paul Chebor has threatened to abandon a ceasefire agreement he had reached with Nakuru governor Susan Kihika.

Chebor was among several Nakuru MPs who, a few months ago, agreed to put aside their political differences and work with Governor Kihika for political stability and development of the county.

But speaking at Mercy Njeri village in his constituency on Saturday, December 20, the legislator, elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, accused individuals around the governor of undermining his leadership.

He claimed the individuals were planning to push him out.

“It has reached a time to be truthful. You know we had a gentleman’s agreement in the best interest of the party but if the political love is not working, we have to call it quits,” Chebor said.

The MP serving his first term further claimed Governor Kihika’s confidants were berating him while at the same time expecting him to sing the ‘two-term song’ for the county boss.

He noted that his threat to abandon the ceasefire agreement was meant to protect his political interests.

“I am notifying you, as my supporters, that we are now back to where we were. If somebody doesn’t appreciate and embrace me, why should I force myself?” he said.

Are Nakuru MPs in good terms with Kihika?

Before agreeing to work with Kihika, Chebor was among Nakuru MPs who were openly critiquing the governor, despite both being elected under the UDA ticket.

He, however, insisted that he would work with leaders who respect and uphold honest political engagement.

According to the MP, there is a plot to endorse a different candidate for his seat. The plan, the MP revealed, was being orchestrated by close allies of Governor Kihika.

“If somebody says I should be a one-term MP, we will also declare them one term,” the MP said.

The Rongai MP had publicly agreed to work with the county boss alongside Kuresoi North’s Alfred Mutai in a move that was aimed at wading off inroads that former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was making in Nakuru county.

Gachagua was seen as exploiting infighting among UDA leaders in Nakuru, which also involved Senator Tabitha Karanja.

Is Nakuru a DCP zone?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported about infights within the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) officials in Nakuru county.

Some leaders and members of the party claimed they were being sidelined.

They accused Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara of micromanaging the party in the county and allegedly positioning his allies to vie for various elective positions.
