“My neighbour decided to sit at the back because she knows how people with disabilities are picked up from the back. We went to stand near the gate and saw a crowd continue to stream in. There was no way from behind where they were coming from, and when the gate opened, a deadly scramble ensued,” she said.
“I fought to let the woman pass through and hurt my hand in the process; the police came and helped me remove it. That is when I learned that my neighbour was in trouble, and when I went to see her, I saw her struggling to breathe. I called her daughter, who was seated elsewhere, and she was taken to the hospital. It was then that I learned she had passed away,” she added.
Why do Busia residents want gov’t to step in?
According to the grieving woman, she is still searching for a young child who was with her.
“We are asking the government to help us in this catastrophe; had we known such a thing would happen, we would have never set foot there.”
According to the neighbour who clearly shared the blow -by-blow account of how the woman died, the victim only had a daughter and no sons; they are not well off and may not have the ability to bury their mother.
She is now pleading with the government to help them bury their departed soul.
