On Monday, December 22, the public figure, whose real name is Nelson Oyugi, revealed that he is the grandson of Hezekiah Oyugi.
Oyugi was arguably Kenya’s most powerful permanent secretary, having served under the then-Ministry of Internal Security.
Who was Hezekiah Oyugi?
During the presidency of Daniel Arap Moi, Oyugi gained significant influence within Kenya’s intelligence and security services.
He was deeply involved in the Directorate of Security, a key part of Kenya’s security infrastructure tasked with managing national security and intelligence operations.
Oyugi used his position to play a major role in shaping the country’s security policies. However, he was also accused of suppressing opposition and criticism. Oyugi died in 1992, and his family claimed that he was poisoned.
Inside Hezekiah Oyugi’s mansion
Nelly shared several photographs of Oyugi, including one with former president Moi. He also offered a glimpse of the massive two-storey house his grandfather built.

The expansive compound has many trees, including palms, and a large water tank, as well as a one-storey extension.

In the comments, Kenyans said Nelly resembles his grandfather, while others reflected on their experiences with the former Permanent Secretary.
