Kirinyaga: A 40‑year‑old woman, Edith Muthoni, who went into hiding after allegedly killing her lover, has been arrested.

Muthoni and her 52‑year‑old partner, Peter Mwangi Wanyeki, had reportedly spent most of Christmas Day together at a local bar in Muragara Trading Centre when a confrontation arose over a KSh 60 alcohol bill they had consumed together.

According to witnesses, when the altercation escalated, Muthoni allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife from a bar attendant who was peeling potatoes for Christmas meals and stabbed Mwangi in the chest, killing him instantly.

Where was Edith Muthoni arrested?

On Friday, December 26, Citizen Digital reported that Kirinyaga West (Ndia) Sub‑County Police Commander Jos Mudavadi confirmed that detectives tracked her down and arrested her at her hideout in Kandegwa village.

“She had gone into hiding after the incident. Our officers established her whereabouts and arrested her,” he said

Mudavadi said Muthoni is currently being held at Baricho Police Station as investigations continue.

Mwangi’s family, who received news of his death while celebrating Christmas at home, expressed relief after her arrest.

They regretted that despite Mwangi being a respected driver who helped many in the community, his life was cut short during a festive season meant for joy.

With the arrest, the family expressed hope that justice will be served for their lost kin.

Minor arrested for allegedly killing boyfriend, 41

Elsewhere, a 17‑year‑old girl, Belinda Bahati Achieng’, was arrested after allegedly stabbing her 41‑year‑old boyfriend, Collins Onyango, to death during a domestic feud along Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

The police report indicated that Achieng’ seized a kitchen knife and stabbed Onyango in the neck after a heated altercation between them, leaving him fatally wounded.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Edel Vale Trust Jamaa Mission Hospital.

The suspect, who sustained injuries from a mob attack, was rescued by officers and taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for treatment before being placed in custody.

According to an eyewitness, Javan and his team were reportedly drunk and were driving at a high speed when the accident occurred.

He reported that the musician’s car knocked down the rider and ran over him before sliding into a ditch 200 metres away from the scene of the accident. Irate residents attempted to confront the occupants of the car, but a section of the crowd shielded them.
