Nairobi: DCI Detectives Arrest 17-Year-Old Girl for Allegedly Killing Boyfriend, 41, after Argument

A teenager is in police custody for allegedly killing her much older boyfriend after a heated feud between them.

Seventeen-year-old Belinda Achieng’ is said to have turned against 41-year-old Collins Onyango after an argument on Friday dawn, December 26, in Buruburu.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were notified of the goings-on long after the man had been fatally injured.

“In the early hours of December 26, 2025, Buruburu detectives moved in fast after a distress call of a violent altercation in the said area. By the time officers arrived, the confrontation between the suspect, Belinda Bahati Achieng’, and her boyfriend Collins Onyango had escalated into a heated exchange that turned violent,” a statement from the DCI partly read.

The detectives preliminarily established that the young girl used a kitchen knife to attack her boyfriend.

She is said to have stabbed him in the neck.

Having sustained critical injuries, the responders rushed him to a local hospital to save his life.

All was, however, in vain, as the man was confirmed dead upon arrival at the facility.

“In the heat of the moment, Achieng’ is alleged to have seized a kitchen knife and stabbed Onyango in the neck. He was rushed to Edel Vale Trust Jamaa Mission Hospital in Buruburu, but doctors could only pronounce him dead on arrival,” the DCI said.

The body was later booked at the Mama Lucy Hospital morgue ahead autopsy.

“His body has since been moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for preservation and post-mortem,” the DCI reported.

Meanwhile, Belinda was arrested by detectives and taken to the Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment, having sustained injuries at the scene.

Her arrest happened to have saved her, as a mob was determined to avenge her boyfriend’s death.

She awaits arraignment. The kitchen knife was picked as an exhibit for the oncoming case.

“The suspect, who sustained injuries, from a furious mob baying for her blood, was rescued by detectives who escorted her to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for treatment, before taking her into custody. She is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the murder weapon, recovered at the scene, has been secured as an exhibit,” the DCI said.

Elsewhere, police in Kirinyaga are detaining a woman accused of killing her husband on Christmas Day.

Fifty-two-year-old Peter Mwangi Wanyeki was killed by his lover, Edith Muthoni, in Ndia sub-county.

Mwangi was allegedly killed in Muragara Shopping Centre after a violent confrontation with Muthoni at a local bar.

The incident unfolded as the Wanyeki family celebrated Christmas at their rural home, with relatives later identifying the suspect as a woman from Kandegwa village.

The family called for justice after discovering Mwangi lying in a pool of blood.

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute arose over a KSh 60 alcohol bill, during which Muthoni is said to have seized a kitchen knife, previously used for preparing Christmas meals, and fatally stabbed Mwangi in the chest.

Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Jos Mudavadi confirmed the case, noting that detectives are actively pursuing the suspect, who fled immediately after the attack.

He urged members of the public to share any information that could assist in her arrest, while police transferred the body to a local mortuary for further investigation.
