Seven members of the same family were killed in a devastating road accident on the Masaka–Mbarara highway in Lwengo District, leaving a community in mourning during the festive season.

Police said the fatal crash involved a silver Fuso truck and a silver Toyota Fielder in which the family was travelling.
How Masaka–Mbarara crash occurred
According to the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, all seven victims were occupants of the Toyota Fielder and were returning from Kampala.

Daily Monitor reports that the Fielder, which was travelling from Masaka towards Mbarara, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.

The identities of the victims were withheld for a while as police worked to notify the next of kin, with the mangled wreck pointing to how severe and unforgiving the impact was.
“The collision was fatal,” SP Kasirye told the media. “Four occupants of the Toyota Fielder died instantly at the scene.
Who died in the Masaka–Mbarara crash?
During rescue and recovery operations, three more bodies were retrieved from inside the same vehicle, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.
Crooze FM shared that the deceased include a man, his wife, their four children, and the man’s brother.
Traffic police officers were swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the area and restore the flow of traffic along the busy highway, which was temporarily disrupted by the crash.
Both vehicles were later towed to the police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Masaka City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
What caused the Masaka–Mbarara crash?
Police have attributed the accident to suspected reckless driving, although investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Motorist saves stranger’s life
Elsewhere, what began as a routine Christmas Day drive home turned into a life-saving mission for Hannah Ngae, who found herself at the centre of a dramatic roadside rescue on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
Hannah was travelling with her friend, Wambui, when she noticed what appeared to be someone lying across the road.
Trained in the medical field, she immediately sensed danger, stopped the car, administered first aid and rushed him to hospital after ambulances failed to respond.
