A chilling CCTV footage has captured the moment a building located at Plot No. 209/5909/10 along Kiganjo Muhoho Avenue in South C Ward, Nairobi county, collapsed.

The 14-storey building, situated just metres from Nairobi South Hospital, caved in on the morning of January 2, causing panic among residents.
Hours after the devastating incident, footage showing the final moments before the faulty structure collapsed surfaced, revealing fresh details.
When did South C building collapse happen?
Two vehicles were seen parked on the ground floor moments before the building came down at around 5 a.m.

Following the collapse, a massive cloud of dust engulfed the area, lingering for some time, as seen in the video.
A man believed to be a taxi driver who had been admitted to Nairobi South Hospital was seen narrowly escaping the scene moments after the building collapsed.
Residents were forced to evacuate the area for their safety in an effort to minimise casualties and injuries following the shocking incident.
Which emergecny teams responded to South C incident?
A multi-agency response involving the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU), Nairobi City County emergency teams, the National Police Service, Kenya Power, and the Kenya Red Cross cordoned off the scene.
Both the police and the Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident, with the latter sharing an update on social media.
Rescue operations were temporarily halted after an adjacent building began showing signs of instability, posing further risk to residents and rescue personnel.
National Disaster Management Director William Sifuna confirmed that the neighbouring building had been affected by the collapse.
Why was South C rescue operation halted?
He explained that it had been weakened and made fragile by the initial incident, raising concerns that its pillars could give way.
“This other adjacent building was also affected because its pillars were knocked, and it is now very delicate. We are trying to move members of the public away and control the crowd to avoid more casualties,” Sifuna said.
He noted that evacuation and rescue operations had not been permanently halted, as teams were assessing ways to rescue at least two people believed to be trapped in the collapsed building.
“We are trying very hard to clear the roads blocked by debris. We have advised the neighbourhood to evacuate nearby buildings so that we can complete our work and determine whether the affected building is safe. We have taken precautions and are being proactive to ensure we save more lives rather than react after further damage,” he added.

Jalang’o speaks after South C building incident
Following the incident, several leaders expressed concern over the approval of such construction projects and demanded answers.
Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Jalang’o visited the scene, expressing regret over the tragedy and stating that his primary concern was the safety of residents.
He also called for the immediate suspension of all construction activities, not only in South C but also in the neighbouring Nairobi West wards.
