Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has ruled out the possibility of joining President William Ruto’s regime as a Cabinet Secretary.

Speaking at a funeral in Trans Nzoia Saturday, January 31, Euegene said his focus was on the presidency, noting that his profile and experience were no longer befitting for a Cabinet member.

The former Saboti MP has served in the former presidents, the late Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta’s regimes, as a Cabinet member.

“I am not interested in serving in any ministry in William Ruto’s government. I am not looking for a ministerial position anymore. I am past that. What I now want is the seat Ruto is having right now. Do you think he can give it to me? He can’t leave it for me and that is why 2027 we are going for it. If our seniors Musalia Mudavaid and Moses Wetang’ula can’t go for the seat, there are many of us from the Mulembe nation ready to take it,” he said.

Earlier, Eugene had signalled intentions to reach out to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in preparation for the 2027 general election.

While addressing mourners at a funeral in Trans Nzoia on Saturday, January 25, he emphasised that Western Kenya could play a decisive role in shaping national politics if its leaders worked together.

He pointed out that although the region has had four political parties representing its people, only two have endured without being dissolved.

Eugene highlighted his DAP-K alongside Ford Kenya as the true representatives of Western Kenya, stressing that ANC had merged into the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), while ODM’s future remains uncertain due to internal divisions over whether to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

He urged Wetang’ula and Mudavadi to embrace the proposal and join forces in building a united front that would champion the interests of the Western Kenya electorate at the national level.
