In recent months, George has steadily expanded his footprint beyond the family name, making moves that have increased his visibility, especially among the youth.
Is George Ruto joining politics?
George, who is President Ruto’s last born son, has invested in the sports and transport sectors, backing a fleet of matatus and running a sports academy, ventures largely aimed at empowering young people.
As a result, his presence has become more noticeable compared to the past, when public sightings of him were rare.
Most recently, the first son hosted a sports tournament dubbed 82 Sports, where several teams competed for top honours.
The event, held at the Police Sacco Stadium, drew large numbers of young people who turned up to support their respective teams.
Away from the pitch, George was spotted interacting with fans. In a now-viral clip, a group of youths can be seen enthusiastically engaging with him, with some suggesting what his next step should be.
Although George has previously spoken about his business ambitions, he has never publicly indicated any intention to venture into politics.
During the brief interaction, the youths were heard chanting:
“Rais, rais, rais, ukuwe rais,” as they shook his hand, leaving him smiling.
However, George did not respond to the calls for him to consider a political path or run for office like his father.
