President William Ruto toured northern Kenya this past week and visited numerous areas, including Garissa.
“Northern Kenya is where the future of our agriculture lies. The completion of the Isiolo–Mandera and Isiolo–Garissa–Lamu roads will open up the region, actualising our vision of being a food-secure country in the long-run.”
Did Garissa woman refuse to hug Ruto?
Ruto inspected the Isiolo–Mandera road while affirming his government’s commitment to building more roads across the country to increase connectivity and spur development.
“Under our leadership, we will correct the past of marginalisation and discrimination, and rewrite a future of transformation that leaves no Kenyan, no region and no community behind.”
Footage from the trip shows the president with a golden shirt and cap leaving the venue of one of the meetings, accompanied by other leaders and his security detail.
Ruto smiled and waved at the surrounding crowd, majorly made up of women.
The head of state then approached one of the young women wearing a pink outfit and gave her one of his hands, which she held lightly.
However, he then opened up his arms as if expecting a hug, but it was not forthcoming.
The woman shyly took her hand back and covered her face, and blushed as Ruto laughed.
He then continued walking towards his parked vehicle.
The woman’s action impressed many Kenyans, who said that it was in line with her Muslim faith.
