How Kenya’s former police boss’s son ended up on police radar

Back in Kenya, former Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai’s son, David Mwendwa, was ever prosecuted with two charges of causing death by dangerous driving after an accident involving his vehicle and two motorcycles.

Nairobi Traffic Commandant at that time, Joshua Omukata, dismissed claims of a police cover-up, stressing that investigations would proceed without regard to Mwendwa’s family ties, noting that the matter was strictly about the accident itself.

Mwendwa surrendered at Lang’ata Police Station after initially fleeing the scene, and authorities planned to conduct a medical examination to determine if he was intoxicated at the time.
