In July 2025, President William Ruto appointed Erastus Ethekon as the new chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), alongside six commissioners.

Ethekon replaced the late chair Wafula Chebukati, who presided over the 2017 and 2022 polls.
The gazette notice states that each of the six commissioners and the chairperson will serve a six-year non-renewable term.

Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah were appointed commissioners.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) sets the salaries and allowances of the IEBC chair, vice chair and members of the commission.
In its latest review, the SRC increased the monthly pay of the IEBC chair and commissioners effective July 1, 2024.
“In setting the remuneration and benefits herein, the SRC took into account the principles set out in Article 230 (5) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the SRC Act, 2011,” the commission said in a gazette notice.

What are the other benefits for the IEBC chair, VC and commissioners?
- State officers serving in independent offices and full-time constitutional commissions, including IEBC, are given official vehicles with a capacity not exceeding 3000 cc.
- An annual medical cover is provided to the state officer, one spouse and up to four children below 25 years fully dependent on the state officer, as follows: Inpatient: KSh 10 million, outpatient: KSh 300,000, maternity: KSh 150,000, dental: KSh 75,000 and optical: KSh 75,000.
- Upon retirement, the officers shall be paid a service gratuity at the rate of 31% of the annual pensionable emoluments for the term served.
- The IEBC chair is entitled to a car loan of up to KSh 10 million and a mortgage of up to KSh 40 million.
- An IEBC commission member is entitled to a car loan of up to KSh 6 million and a mortgage of up to KSh 30 million.
How much do Kenyan MPs earn?

A member of the National Assembly earns a basic salary of KSh 443,760, a house allowance of KSh 150,000 and a salary market adjustment of KSh 170,008.
On the other hand, governors earn more than MPs.
