Besides elected MCAs, here are nominated ward representatives appointed based on party strength to meet gender and special interest requirements.
This brings the total number of MCAs higher than 1,450, presided over by 47 county speakers, assisted by a similar number of deputy speakers.
Their salaries are determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
“The monthly remuneration is fixed for the term of office for the state officer in the County Assembly, unless reviewed and set by SRC,” the commission said in a notice.

What are the benefits for state officers in county assemblies?
1. Sitting allowance
A committee sitting allowance is paid to state officers in the County Assembly who serve on committees.
The chairperson receives KSh 6,500 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of KSh 104,000, while the vice-chairperson receives KSh 5,200 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of KSh 83,200.
On the other hand, a member receives KSh 3,900 per sitting up to a monthly maximum of KSh 62,400.
2. Official transport
The speaker of the County Assembly is provided with an official car of engine capacity not exceeding 2000cc.
For official activities as a member of the county assembly, the deputy speaker and member get KSh 2,212,000 in motor vehicle reimbursement to acquire a car with an engine capacity of no more than 1800cc.

3. Car maintenance allowance
The car maintenance allowance shall be paid to the deputy speaker and MCAs at the rate of KSh 30,167 per month.
