Why has Kenya Power planned electricity interruptions?
According to KPLC, the scheduled maintenance is aimed at improving power reliability and stabilising the national grid.

In a public notice issued to customers, the utility firm said the temporary outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Makueni, Kisii and Nyamira counties.
Most of the scheduled maintenance works will take place between 9am and 5pm, though a few areas will experience shorter outages.
The company explained that the interruptions are necessary to allow technical teams to upgrade and service power lines and related infrastructure.
Which areas in Nairobi will experience power interruptions?
In Nairobi county, customers in parts of Ngara will experience outages during the maintenance period.
Areas expected to be affected include Pioneer University, Guru Nanak Hospital, Pangani Girls, Pangani Police Station, Radiant Hospital, Fairview Road, North View Road, Muratina Street and Jam Street.
Other locations within the capital set to face temporary outages are parts of Lang’ata and Karen. These include Banda, sections of Magadi Road, Kisembe Road, Safe Park, Parkview, Kenya Wildlife Service offices, Brooke House, Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Apostle of Jesus, Bogani East, Bogani East Close, St Aquinas Seminary and nearby customers.
What areas in Kiambu county will be affected?
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Kiambu county, the interruptions will affect parts of Athena and Muthaiga.
Kenya Power listed areas such as Oasis, Kona 1, Kona 2 and Kona 3, Kiangombe, Kimuchu Primary and Secondary schools, Superfine Africa Nuts, Leerand School, Alternative Energy and G5 among the places expected to experience outages.
Additional parts of Kiambu, including Acme Containers and Norbrook (K) Ltd will also be affected.
Nearby areas such as Kentmere Club Njiku, Laini Shopping Centre, Kimlea, Echuka, Tumaini School, St Ruth School, Merellis Farm Gatuikira and Highwood Farm will also experience the interruption.
Which locations in Nyeri, Kirinyaga counties will lose power?
In Nyeri county, Kenya Power said maintenance will affect areas around Kiru, Gatunguru and Kihoya. Local trading centres, including Gatunguru, Kiru, Mioro Market and Kihoya Market, are expected to be without electricity during the scheduled hours.
Other locations likely to experience outages include Wanjarere, Nyagatugu, Kiawambogo, Kirimahiga Coffee Factory, Gacharageini Market, Kiriti Girls School, Muthangari, Kagongo, Magomano, Mierereini and Mathioya Water.
In Kirinyaga county, power will be interrupted around Beckham Hotel and Ithareini. Affected areas include Mla Chake Kimandi, Mukengeria Village, Ithare-Ini Market, Kanguiyo Village, Kiangombe Market, Kiangwenyi Market and Kirigu Stage.
What areas of Tharaka Nithi and Laikipia will be affected?
Parts of Tharaka Nithi county will also be affected, particularly Giampampo, Ndagani and areas around Chuka Boys. The outage in this region is expected to run from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
Kenya Power listed affected areas as Gaketha, Ruguta Market, Giampampo Safaricom, Ndagani Market, Rukindu, Gitwaka, Lowlands and Njaina.
In Laikipia county, electricity supply will be interrupted in Likii, Kangaita and Kalalu. Areas expected to experience outages include Nanyuki Law Courts, Nanyuki Police Station, Likii Farm, Lunatik Lane, Kwa Gitari, Milimani, Makutano, Katheri, Ontulili and Kwa Marete.
Other listed locations include Mathagiro, Peaks Hotel, Kongoni Hotel, Tulaco Farm, Equinox Farm, Three Rivers School, Color Crops Farm, Everest Farm, Kongoni Farm, Kalalu, Kirimara, Ibis Farm, Umande and Demu.
Which coastal areas will experience electricity interruptions?
Along the coast, parts of Taita Taveta county will experience interruptions in Manyani.
Kenya Power said areas around Devki Manga, the entire Manga area, Manyani Prisons and the Kenya Wildlife Service Law Enforcement Academy will be affected.
In Kwale county, the maintenance exercise will affect Ukunda town and surrounding areas, including Kosovo, Mwabungo, ICIPE, Jorori, Kona ya Musa and Mvindeni Market.
What areas in Kisii, Nyamira will experience power outages?
In the South Nyanza region, Kenya Power announced planned outages in parts of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
In Kisii county, areas around Riana and Nyamira Ndogo will be affected, including Ekiendege, Nyotoima, Riana Market and Riana Level Four Hospital.
Meanwhile, in Nyamira county, the interruption will affect Matunwa, Gesima and Mosobeti areas. Customers around Matunwa Tea Factory, Enchoro Royal Media, Gesima, Mosobeti, Motagara, Nyataro and Omwoyo will experience temporary outages.
