The Ministry of Defence has announced a public auction of ex-military vehicles, general stores and equipment.

The ministry published a notice in The Standard on Wednesday, March 4, inviting Kenyans to view the vehicles and items before submitting their bids.
The goods will be sold on an ‘as-is-where-is’ basis.

“The vehicles, equipment and boarded general stores can be viewed from Monday, March 16, during working days only (Monday to Friday) except on public holidays in Nairobi region (DEFOD – Kahawa, 23 OCC – Lanet, Nanyuki region (43 OCC), Garissa region (63 OCC) and Coastal Region (Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe and Mariakani Garrison starting from 9:00am to 4:00pm,” the notice read.

The ministry asked bidders to obtain catalogues giving full details of items from its offices at Ulinzi House in Nairobi, Nanyuki, Mtongwe, Kahawa and Garissa.

What are the bidding conditions?
- A refundable bid number deposit of KSh 50,000 for vehicles/equipment and KSh 30,000 for stores must be made by interested bidders to the Ministry of Defence lot exclusively before the last day of viewing.
- Each bid number may only bid on one lot.
- The original bid catalogue and the receipts for the catalogue and bid number deposits must be on exhibit at the door to be qualified to take part in the auction.
- The award will be withdrawn, and the deposit will be forfeited if the whole sum is not paid within 14 days of the auction.
- A deposit equivalent to 25% of the winning bid must be paid at the time the hammer falls. After making full payment, successful bidders must pick up their item or items within thirty (30) days; if they don’t, they will be charged storage fees equal to 1% of the bid value per day.
- Driving an ex-military vehicle with an ex-military license plate is prohibited; otherwise, the vehicle will be seized immediately.
How many vehicles is NCBA auctioning?
In other news, NCBA announced an auction of 28 vehicles.
It offered the cheapest model at KSh 510,000.
The bank set a deadline to submit bids.
