Gideon Mugambi, a 36-year-old University of Nairobi graduate, has made a public plea for help, sharing the immense burden he carries as he struggles to provide for his family.

In a heartfelt message shared with family, friends and well-wishers, Gideon describes a man who has fought hard to rebuild himself, only to find himself standing at the edge once more.

Gideon disclosed that after going through education with the help of sponsors, he graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Eleven years after his graduation, he has never landed a decent job, a development that sent him into a depressive state.
“Nimefanya mijengo, kubebea watu mzigo, and now with time, I realised I need a better job to support my family,” he lamented. “I have a wife and a seven-year-old kid. Right now, I am really suffering.”
Gideon’s journey has been one of resilience against overwhelming odds. After struggling with depression and addiction, he emerged from rehab in 2024, determined to reclaim his life.

Gideon’s mother involved in accident
Yet, sobriety has not eased the weight of responsibility. As the firstborn, Gideon bears the responsibility of supporting his mother and younger siblings while also caring for his own family.
His current income, which fluctuates between KSh 7,000 and KSh 12,000, is barely enough to cover rent, school fees, daily necessities, and medical expenses.
The situation became critical recently when his mother was involved in an accident. Although she is slowly recovering, the financial toll has been devastating.
Medical bills and the cost of her care have piled up, and her rent has fallen into arrears, putting her at risk of eviction.
“I have pushed myself to the limit,” Gideon admits. “Instead of taking away my life, I decided to speak out and ask for help, for financial assistance and for a decent job.”

Kiambu graduate seeks help to find job
In a similar story, a young woman from Ruiru, Kiambu county, is among the many youths looking for employment opportunities after finishing campus.
Jane Njoki Wanjiku had a tough upbringing, as she was raised by her uncle and aunt following a family dispute that left her living with her mother.
Despite the setback, she pursued a Bachelor of Education at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and graduated in 2024, but she has been jobless for several months.
