Outspoken Lawyer Warns Voters Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nairobi, Kenya – Firebrand lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has issued a strong warning to Kenyans regarding Fred Matiang’i’s presidential aspirations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

During a fiery interview on Citizen TV aired on Sunday, July 13, Miguna criticized the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, branding him as unfit to hold public office due to alleged past violations of the law.

“He Violated the Constitution and Disobeyed Court Orders” – Miguna

Miguna accused Matiang’i of being a serial violator of court orders and a leader who lacked respect for the rule of law. Referring to his own controversial deportation under the Uhuru Kenyatta administration, Miguna stated:

“If we want to transform the country, and I believe we do, we cannot tolerate and entertain characters like Matiang’i who have not been punished, even though there were several court orders against him.”

He cited:

  • Alleged extrajudicial killings during Matiang’i’s tenure as Interior CS
  • The River Yala mass killings
  • His own abduction and forced exile
  • Illegal red alerts preventing his return to Kenya for five years

Miguna said these actions represent the abuse of power in its purest form, warning that such a figure should not be allowed anywhere near the presidency.

Can Fred Matiang’i Replace President William Ruto in 2027?

With the 2027 elections fast approaching, Fred Matiang’i has emerged as a potential opposition flagbearer. Recently, a Jubilee-branded campaign truck bearing his image and the slogan “Mbele Pamoja” was seen outside Jubilee Party headquarters, fueling speculation about his readiness to enter the race.

Matiang’i also resigned from his World Bank position, reportedly to focus on his presidential ambitions.

He is expected to join forces with other opposition leaders, including:

  • Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party leader)
  • Rigathi Gachagua (former Deputy President)

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni publicly endorsed Matiang’i as the most viable candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

Miguna’s Final Word to Voters

“This is not about politics. It’s about integrity, justice, and accountability. Kenyans must remember the suffering caused by impunity—and say ‘no’ to leaders who thrived under it.”
