Chaos erupted near Nchiru market in Meru county after a landlord allegedly stabbed a Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) student during an altercation.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, sending shockwaves across the campus and surrounding community.

According to witnesses, the confrontation between the two escalated quickly before the landlord reportedly attacked the student with a sharp object, leaving him with deep injuries.

The victim was rushed to Tigania Hospital, where he remains in critical condition as medics fight to save his life.

Police officers have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack, but early reports suggest it may have been triggered by a disagreement over unpaid rent.

Meru University students torch landlord’s home

News of the stabbing spread rapidly across the university, fueling anger among students.

In retaliation, hundreds of students stormed the landlord’s residence and neighbouring rental houses, torching them and destroying valuable property.

Videos seen by TUKO.co.ke showed flames engulfing several structures as thick smoke billowed into the sky.

Firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene in an attempt to restore order, but the destruction had already taken a heavy toll. The inferno burned for hours, reducing the landlord’s home to ashes and leaving nearby properties severely damaged.

The unrest disrupted business activities around Nchiru market as terrified residents fled for safety.
