Sylvia recounted how her daughter went missing in April 2024, when she had gone home for the midterm break.

How did Belinda go missing?

At the time, Belinda had gone to her grandmother’s home but did not stay long before she disappeared without a trace.

“She had just stayed there for two days. On the second day, she left the house without notifying anyone that she was leaving. It was like she was going to the shop and would return. That is how she got lost.

I had to involve the police after we could not find her. I went to Chavakali Police Station and got an OB number. Sometimes I would receive calls from people who claimed to have seen someone like her in a certain village. Unfortunately, none of them ever led to finding her,” she said.

Sylvia opens up on working in Qatar

She had to leave her kids with their grandmother as she travelled to Qatar, where she worked for eight years.

“I would come home after two years. We still communicated on the phone, so it’s not like we never talked. I worked hard to take Belinda to school until last year when she was poised to sit for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Ikobero Girls High School. That is when she went missing during the short midterm holidays.
