The altercation, which occurred on Thursday, October 9, sparked online debates after Madowo recorded a video of Orero’s vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi to bypass traffic.
Larry Madowo vs Kibra MP Peter Orero
In the video, Madowo was seen blocking the MP’s Toyota Prado as it attempted to overtake others illegally.
As Madowo started filming the incident, Orero and his driver angrily confronted him, with insults exchanged.
The MP, seated in the front passenger seat, and his driver were heard telling Madowo to “take it to Ruto,” suggesting he should report the issue to President William Ruto.
The video went viral, sparking mixed reactions on social media.
While many Kenyans condemned Orero for his arrogance and blatant disregard for traffic laws, a section of netizens accused Madowo of being petty and inconsiderate toward the MP.
Some argued that Madowo was too aggressive in confronting a fellow kinsman in such a public manner.
Larry Madowo’s response to critic
In a direct response to these criticisms, Madowo took to social media, addressing a fan who had accused him of being petty.
Speaking in Dholuo, Madowo fired back, saying that he has no sympathy for leaders who fail to respect citizens, regardless of their background.
“Somebody told me here that I am being petty. That I am fighting my kinsman, and that I should calm down,” Madowo began. “You have stood with those who despise and abuse you. They don’t respect us as citizens because they are in leadership. That’s why we are behind. You should be calling these people out and telling them the truth, but you don’t do that. That’s your problem. I’m not there.”
Here is how Larry Madowo’s fans reacted:
Evemarion Migose
“That is it. Respect is key. Rules and regulations must be followed in order for systems to work. A country thrives when its systems are working.”
Dorine Nakuti:
“Leaders need to lead by good example and not arrogance. Rules must be followed.”
Blessed Oduor:
“Very true. Very true, leadership should be the definition of humility.”
Makambaya Vit:
“I think a section of Kenyans has a very big problem (third-world mindset). Larry Madowo used his position to highlight how arrogant some of our leaders disobey traffic rules and some Kenyans are here criticising Larry? Are we crazy as Kenyans? Disobeying traffic rules have the potential to cause accidents, including death. The MP should be called out. By the way, I haven’t heard him tendering any apologies about the incident.”
