“When she (Le Tissier) steps up for a penalty, I feel confident, I absolutely do. You’re at the mercy of technique, not whether the wind is in the wrong direction,” he said via Man United’s website.

The comments come at a time when Amorim continues to look away during penalties. The Red Devils haven’t been lucky from the spot this season, with captain Bruno Fernandes missing twice from the spot so far.

United were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town on post-match penalties.

Why Amorim doesn’t watch penalties

At all times during penalties, Amorim has often hung his head and avoided looking at what is happening inside the area.

I don’t like watching penalties. I don’t like to see penalties, but I like to see the image of the fans.”

“But I was just thinking that what has to be has to be, and we understand sometimes one moment can change a lot of things,” he explained after beating Burnley thanks to a Fernandes last-minute penalty.

Amorim’s side beat Sunderland 2-0 in their last game before the international break to move to 10th place with 10 points. They travel to Anfield after the break to face a struggling Liverpool side.

Skinner’s side, meanwhile, beat Everton 4-1 on Sunday to keep tabs with Chelsea at the top of the Women’s Super League table. They have 14 points, two less than the reigning champions, Chelsea, who beat Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a Keira Walsh thunderbolt.

They play Atletico Madrid in the second game of the Champions League on Thursday.

Former Chelsea star suggests Amorim’s replacement

In a related story, former Chelsea star Joe Cole said time is up for Ruben Amorim at Man United.

He called for the club to dismiss the Portuguese tactician, proposing that former England manager Gareth Southgate might be a suitable replacement.

Southgate was heavily linked to the role last year, but fans have strongly opposed his potential appointment.
