Bondo: Residents Erupts Into Mourning Following Raila Odinga’s Death, Shout Jowi in Streets

Earlier a number of Indian outlets confirmed that he died while taking a walk around the facility he was seeking treatment.

His elder brother Oburu Odinga had recently confirmed that he was seeking treatment and promised that he would return home after his rest.

However, following his death, Kenyans and leaders across the globe have shared tributes and moving condolence messages.

How did Bondo residents mourn Raila Odinga

In his backyard in Bondo, residents shut down everything took to the streets to mourn the fallen leader.

They carried stems with leaves in the streets as they shared their pain and loss of the veteran politician.

“My name is Paul Otieno from Bondo, it is so sad that our father Raila has died. He was sick and they never told us to what extent. All Kenyans are shocked by his death,” said one of the residents.

From the videos, women were seen in tears, holding their hands above their heads as they wept in Luo dialect.

“Raila’s death has finished us as the Luo nation. We are in pain and the government should see how we will survive as Luos,” said another resident.

Another lady, who was wailing, shared how Raila’s death broke her heart and the memories she has of him.

“My name is Jeniffer Atieno, I am so shocked, he was a good man, he was a father, and we will miss him dearly. This death has pain me. Mayooo Raila why have you done this to me,” she said.

Mombasa governor breaks down as he mourns Raila

In a separate report, Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Sherri Nassir was among the first ODM members who gave tributes.

While giving his eulogy, he broke down as he recalled the last conversation that he had with Raila.

Nassir shared that Raila had called him to talk about investors who were interested in investing in Mombasa.

They also talked about the upcoming byelections where Nassir told Raila to take a back seat and let them run things.
