Homa Bay – Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has called for unity among Nyanza region residents following the death of the former ODM leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

Speaking in Homa Bay county, the presidential hopeful said the region should remain to remain united in honour of the former prime minister’s legacy.
Matiang’i, who described Raila as a father figure who treated everyone equally, said the best tribute for Nyanza region to pay the former PM is to remain united.

The former powerful CS reminded the crowd how Raila took the residents of Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay, Kisumu or any of the larger Nyanza region counties, as his children.
“I know, and it’s good to say this here, Raila had a way of keeping people together. He had a way of consulting people. All of us, whether you were from Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay, Kisumu or any of the larger Nyanza region counties, he took all of us as his children. With that attitude of keeping us together as his children, now is the time for us to pay the ultimate tribute to him by remaining together as a family because that is what he wanted,” Matiang’i said.
Matiang’i, who is eying the presidency in 2027, narrated how he used to work closely with Raila during former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
The former Interior explained how the late former PM used to consult with leaders on several issues of national importance.

“I had the privilege of working with Baba after the handshake with ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta, and even after leaving the government, we all consulted him on several things. Raila had a way of putting people together. He had a quiet way of consulting and reaching out to people when he heard there was something. When we had something, we would go to him quietly. He never spoke about things before he managed them quietly,” the former CS said.
