Douglas, a young man, was allegedly attacked and killed by unknown people, leaving his family in deep pain.

How did Douglas’s mum receive the sad news?

He was returning home from his hustle when he fell into the hands of suspected thieves who showed him no mercy.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, with tears rolling down her cheeks, Douglas’s mother recounted the heartbreaking news.

“I was at home preparing dinner when I received a call. I was told that my son, my only remaining son, had been attacked and killed on his way home. I could not believe the news until I went to the scene and saw it for myself. He had been hit on the head,” she cried.

Peris, Douglas’s wife, was with her mother-in-law when the news broke that her husband was no more.

Douglas’s wife painfully speaks

She began to envision life without her husband, who had left her with the heavy burden of raising their four children alone.

“My husband had just gone to work to look for food for us. He had gone to harvest some maize. I do not know why he was killed. What will I do? He was our breadwinner. Now we have no one to help us. I am left with my mother-in-law, who is also suffering like me. I have a young son who is still breastfeeding, and the others need to go to school,” she cried.

Douglas’s mother said she had struggled to raise her son after the death of her husband many years ago.

She essentially took care of him singlehandedly since he was four years old when his father passed away.

Douglas’s mum opens up on raising him

“I cared for him and his brother, who died a few years ago. Douglas was my main provider. He provided for me, his wife, and his children. Now we are hopeless. We have debts of over KSh 40,000 to pay and other needs like taking his children to school. Part of our land has been put up for sale, as another portion had already been sold to settle debts.

We buried him in this compound, and because he was killed, according to our culture, his grave had to be flat. We do not know what will become of us. We are appealing for any help,” she added.

Peris, a person with albinism, said she no longer had money to buy essential skin products and, after her husband’s death, does not know how she will survive.

The family lives in a small house with barely any bedding or food, a clear indication of the poverty they face.
