But for one mother, Itumeleng Moramaga, the tragedy was more than just a headline, it was a devastating reality she never imagined facing.

Tshiamo and her 21-year-old niece, Baleseng Moramaga, were discovered with gunshot wounds to the head on the morning of October 26.
The two, who had grown up together “like twins,” shared a rented room in the area as they pursued their studies, Tshiamo in beauty therapy, and Baleseng in education.
“The pain I am feeling now, I can’t even wish for my enemy,” the 41-year-old mother said , her voice breaking as she struggled to hold back tears.
Last time Moramaga saw daughter
Moramaga said she had been at her home when she received a call from her eldest sister telling her to rush to the scene.
“She just said the kids got hurt,” she recalled. “I was shocked because my daughter had just visited me. She came on Friday to install a weave for me because I was going to a function, then left on Saturday. That was the last time I saw her.”
By the time she arrived, her worst fears were confirmed when she asked to see them and confirmed they had been shot dead.
According to neighbours, they had heard gunshots around 4 am., followed by silence. Some reported hearing Tshiamo arguing with her boyfriend shortly before the shots rang out.

Tshiamo’s phone disappeared from scene
A message found on Baleseng’s phone suggested the two cousins had been in touch moments before the attack, but Tshiamo’s phone was missing, possibly stolen.
“They grew up together, went to crèche together, and even loved wearing the same clothes since childhood,” Baleseng’s mother, Itumeleng, added, clutching a photo of the two young women. “They had big dreams. Now, all that is gone.”
Police confirmed that officers responded to the scene at 6:15 am. after community members discovered the bodies.
Upon arrival, police found the bodies of two female victims, aged 21 and 22, both with gunshot wounds to the head.
Double murder investigation opened
According to police spokesperson Van Dyk, a double murder investigation has since been opened, though the motive remains unknown.
For the Moramaga family, the search for answers is now intertwined with unbearable grief.
“We want justice for them,” said Itumeleng. “Women and children are getting killed every day, something must be done.”
As she prepares to bury her only daughter, the mother says she is still struggling to believe that her child, full of laughter and ambition just a day earlier, is gone forever.
