Fresh details have emerged about the Dutch national who caused a commotion at Diani Police Station after being captured on video assaulting uniformed officers.

According to a police Occurence Book (OB) report, the suspect, identified as Elwin Ter Host, had been staying at Boma Banda Cottage along Beach Road in Diani Township, Kwale county.

Ter Host, a renewable energy and real estate entrepreneur, was reportedly on vacation when he turned violent on the afternoon of the incident.

Why was the Dutch national arrested in Diani?

At around 3 pm, the cottage management noticed the man was behaving erratically and physically assaulting a woman he was with inside the premises. The management immediately alerted officers from Diani Police Station.

“Police officers under the command of the OCS rushed to the cottage, where they found that the caretaker and guards had rescued the victim,” the report stated.

The woman, identified as Angela Atieno Onduru, a 32-year-old Kenyan, sustained injuries during the assault and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Police said Ter Host had locked himself inside the cottage, forcing them to wait several minutes before he finally opened the door.

Upon arrest, a search revealed three grams of a white substance suspected to be narcotics, believed to be coke. He appeared intoxicated and was placed in custody.

Authorities said he would be charged with assault, causing bodily harm, malicious damage to property, creating disturbance, and possession of suspected narcotics.

How Elwin Ter Horst assaulted police officers in Diani

The incident took a bizarre turn when Ter Host created another disturbance at the police station.

CCTV footage showed him acting aggressively toward officers, hurling insults, and deliberately projecting mucus from his nose onto an officer in uniform.

“…Creating disturbance in a police building by projecting mucus through his nostrils on an officer in police uniform on duty at the report office desk as per the CCTV footage,” the report added.

Police later established that the suspect was in Kenya illegally, as his passport had expired.

Msambweni Police Commander Robinson Langat condemned the incident, warning that foreign nationals who break Kenyan laws would face firm action.

As of the time of reporting, police said Ter Host was expected to be arraigned before being processed for deportation.
