The upcoming by-elections on November 17 will be the first test.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led a delegation of government bureaucrats and sympathisers in a massive campaign for the ODM candidate in the Kasipul MP by-election.
The Orange party is fielding Boyd Were to vie for the seat, which fell vacant in April this year following the murder of his father, Ong’ondo Were.

Kindiki declared that the UDA party, which he leads as its deputy leader, would not field a candidate and would instead support him.
The Deputy President noted that the gesture was in observance of the memorandum of understanding the ODM party signed with UDA, signifying partnership in the government.
Kindiki also noted that UDA will support the ODM candidate in honour of the late Raila Odinga.
“Because of the respect for the memorandum of understanding signed by President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga to unify ODM and UDA, our candidate is Boyd Were. No one should lie that they are in the broad-based government and yet they are not supporting our candidate,” he said.
In reciprocation, the ODM party will support UDA candidates in other by-elections.
The Orange party is also fielding a candidate in Ugunja, Siaya County.
Kindiki noted that the UDA and ODM parties will partner in the by-elections, signalling a major deal for 2027 in the offing.
“ODM will field the broad-based candidates in the Kasipul, Ugunja, and Magarini MP by-elections. Because Baba was working with Ruto, we agreed that UDA will field candidates in the Malava, Banissa, and Mbeere North MP by-elections, and the Baringo senatorial by-election,” Kindiki said.
