Comedian and entrepreneur Sammy Kioko has responded to claims by the Machakos county government that he is tarnishing Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s name.

Kioko first shared his plight a week ago, saying he had not been paid KSh 19 million for doing an embroidery job for the county government.
He camped outside Wavinya’s offices at night after failing to get her audience.
The former Churchill Show comedian admitted that he was depressed due to the dire financial situation, adding that the debt was from two years back.

Kioko eventually closed his tailoring shop, saying he could not pay rent or employees.
On Friday, October 31, the county government released a statement after Kenyans urged Wavinya to pay him.
“The county government has taken note of allegations that we are indebted to him for goods allegedly supplied to the county. These assertions are unfounded and also appear to be part of a calculated and politically motivated scheme aimed at discrediting the governor and undermining the integrity of the county’s leadership.”
The county claimed that they had verified procurement documents, and there was no contract between them and Kioko.
Machakos county further claimed that Kioko was not registered with the county’s supplier register and was not issued with a formal document of the same.
In response, Kioko shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat in which he said he did not want it to reflect badly on Wavinya.
“I went to the procurement office in Machakos. I have never felt that low. They accused me of tarnishing the governor’s name and asked what posting my plight had helped with. I have facts and receipts.”

How did Sammy Kioko respond?
Kioko shared a screenshot of his business partner saying she had given up, and a notice she was issued to vacate her house.
Kioko said the county’s response left him worried before showcasing the documents related to the tender.
“You can trace this document. All I wanted was to see the governor of Machakos.”
Kioko said he had had a conversation with the deputy governor and the person who gave them the contract.
“We just wanted payment and did not want it to be public.”
He noted that they supplied the uniforms that county askaris wear.
Numerous Kenyans urged Wavinya and the county to fulfil their end of the bargain, writing:
