Emotional moments have been captured in viral and heartbreaking photos as mourners viewed the bodies of victims who died in the tragic crash in Gatanga, Murang’a county.

The accident happened on Saturday night, October 26, along the Chomo–Kahunyo Road at Wacengu Bridge.
How did Murang’a accident happen?
A 14-seater public service vehicle (PSV) was carrying family members who were heading home after attending a dowry ceremony in the Nazareth area, Kiambu county.
Unfortunately, just a few metres from their destination, the driver realised the matatu’s brakes had failed, causing panic among the passengers.

He attempted to take control by veering into the Kiama River, but the minivan plunged into the water, resulting in the deaths of six passengers, all from the same family.
On Saturday, November 1, mourners gathered to view the bodies of the man, his wife, and their children who perished in the accident.

Kenya Red Cross team comforts mourners
Tears freely flowed and painful wails filled the air during the heartbreaking moment as mourners battled to keep their emotions in check.
Many were inconsolable as they struggled to come to terms with the great loss of their loved ones.
Some mourners were seen being carried away from the scene as they grieved the deceased.
They were assisted by the Kenya Red Cross team, which compassionately lent a hand to the shattered families.

Grade 3 pupil survives crash, saves survivors
A little boy who survived the accident with his mother narrated what happened moments after the crash.
Boniface Njoroge, who had been sitting at the back of the ill-fated minivan, said he immediately jumped out of the vehicle after it crashed into the river.
It was not easy to get out, as water had already begun filling the vehicle while survivors desperately searched for an escape route.
The nine-year-old managed to squeeze through a window and rushed to seek help from nearby boda boda operators.
His mother, Alice, who had been seated at the front of the matatu, was distraught and feared that her son had died.

Alice loses husband in crash
She knew he had been sitting at the back with another boy, and when she asked about him, she was told he was not in the vehicle.
Alice was relieved to later find her Grade Three son had gone to seek help, a quick-thinking act that helped save many.
Sadly, she lost her husband in the crash and faced the painful task of raising their child alone.
Social media users also praised the young boy for his heroic act, penning heartfelt messages in his honour.
